Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous ESN experience?

No. Previous event or volunteer experience is helpful, but motivation, reliability, initiative and openness are more important.

Can international students apply?

Yes. ESN Zürich's active members include both Swiss and international students. Applicants should meet the local-study, residency and availability requirements listed above.

How much time should I expect to contribute?

Active Members usually contribute around 5–8 hours per week, including department work, bi-weekly meetings and shared event planning or support. The exact workload varies throughout the semester.

Do all departments organise events?

Yes. Events are a shared team effort at ESN Zürich. Your department shapes your main focus, but every Active Member contributes to at least two events per semester through ideas, preparation, coordination or on-the-day support.

Will I receive a confirmation after submitting?

Not immediately. Applications are reviewed after the deadline. Everyone with an eligible application will be contacted once the review process begins.

Can I apply if I study elsewhere?

The usual universities are ETH, UZH, ZHdK, PHZH and FH OST. Applications from other institutions may be considered upon request.
