Joining what we organise.

Who can join ESN Zürich events?

Our public events are primarily for exchange and international students in Zürich, and local students are welcome too. Any event-specific eligibility — for example activities reserved for ESNcard holders — is shown on the event page itself.

How do I register for an event?

Open the event and sign in using your SwitchEdu account. Once you are signed in, complete the registration process. The event will then appear under My registrations in your profile together with its current status.

What happens if an event is full?

Popular events use a waiting list. If you register once places have run out, you are added to it automatically and move up if someone cancels, you will see your position in your registration overview.

How do I pay for a paid event?

Paid events are settled online during or after registration. The event page shows the final price for you, including any ESNcard reduction, before you confirm anything.

Can I cancel a registration?

Cancellation conditions depend on the event, because trips and activities with booked capacity are handled differently from free social evenings. The conditions are stated on the event page.

Membership and discounts.

Where can I get an ESNcard?

You collect it in person at the ESN Zürich office during opening hours. Bring a valid student ID and exchange enrolment confirmation and CHF 10, no appointment needed. The Office & Hours page has the address and the current hours.

How long is the ESNcard valid?

Twelve months from the purchase date written on the card. After that you need a new membership card if you are still eligible.

Do I need an ESNcard to come to events?

Not for most of them. Cardholders pay less at many ESN Zürich activities, and a small number of trips or programmes require a card — that is always stated on the event page.

Volunteering and buddies.

How do I get a Local Buddy?

Apply through the Buddy System page before the semester starts. Buddies are students who already know Zürich and help newcomers settle in during their first weeks.

Can I join the ESN Zürich team?

Yes. ESN Zürich is entirely volunteer-run and recruits at the start of each semester. No prior experience is needed — the Become an ESNer page explains the roles and the application steps.

Do I have to be an Erasmus student?

No. ESN supports the wider international student community, including students on other mobility programmes and international degree students, and local students can take part as well.

The website and reaching us.

How do I create an account?

Students at the supported Zürich universities can sign in with their university login. Everyone else can create an account directly on the sign-up page.

How do I contact ESN Zürich?

By emailing info@zurich.esn.ch. We usually respond within 48 hours during the semester; replies can take longer over the holidays.

Something felt wrong at an event. Who do I talk to?

ESN Zürich has two Safe Persons you can contact confidentially, and you can also submit a report through the website. You decide how much you want to share and what happens next.
